Community Service
Our club plays a deeply active role in community service, contributing to the town through a variety of long-term civic, environmental, and youth-focused initiatives.
For more than 35 years, the club has embodied its motto of “Service Above Self,” supporting projects that enhance quality of life in Strathroy–Caradoc and beyond.
One of the most visible contributions is the Rotary Memorial Trail, a scenic walking loop developed in partnership with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority and the local municipality. This trail not only honors former Rotary members, but also provides residents with access to nature, connects different parts of the town, and has been improved over the years with features like paved pathways and resting benches.
In addition to recreational infrastructure, the club supports environmental stewardship. For instance, in 2024 they led an Earth Day cleanup along Second Street and the Sydenham River, working with the Scouts of Strathroy and the Forest of Flowers to beautify and preserve local green spaces.
Beyond that, they have planted dozens of native trees in Alexandra Park—such as red maples, tulip trees, and white oaks—helping with erosion control and enhancing the park’s ecosystem.
Youth and education are another core focus. The Rotary Club of Strathroy offers a “Service Above Self” scholarship for Grade 12 students, which awards $2,000 annually to those who demonstrate community engagement and leadership. They’re also deeply involved in youth exchange programs, giving local students the chance to study abroad, broaden their horizons, and develop as global citizens.
On the recreational front, the club has backed the development of a major All-Wheels Skate Park at the Fairgrounds Recreation Complex—committing $200,000 toward its construction. This kind of project reflects their dedication not just to physical fitness and play, but also to creating inclusive, youth-friendly spaces in the community.
Healthcare and wellbeing are also part of their mission. The club supports the Strathroy-Caradoc Blood Donor Clinic, helping facilitate regular donation events. Furthermore, they’ve contributed to palliative care in the region, supporting a palliative care suite at Strathroy’s hospital.
Finally, the Rotary Club of Strathroy is intentional about its commitment to inclusion and diversity. They emphasize creating a welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds—regardless of race, religion, gender identity, or socioeconomic status—ensuring their projects and membership reflect the community’s diversity.
Overall, through a blend of environmental projects, youth support, healthcare, recreation, and inclusive values, the Rotary Club of Strathroy demonstrates how a local service club can make a tangible and lasting impact on its community.
